NFMT: Exploring What’s New in the Lives of Buildings

Every year we look forward to attending the NFMT show in Baltimore for a variety of reasons. Certainly seeing old friends is a great reason to attend; however, in recent years we find ourselves learning more about the building envelope and all of the innovative technologies that differentiate buildings. This year’s NFMT show presented a renewed emphasis on technology. In fact, 4 major BAS manufacturers displayed products and discussed the future of their products within the fast paced world of building automation technology. In addition to BAS, there were a host of IoT companies who were eager to explain how their products fit into the IoT revolution. All of the products that were exhibited in the technology areas of the show were on the cutting edge of the market and exciting to see.

This year at NFMT, The Clean Tech Expo made its debut. Within a separate area, this sub-show featured cleaning and janitorial supply companies. Several new products were featured and it appeared to be well attended. The Clean Expo offered a dedicated space to these products and services, making it easy to find and allowed the remainder of the show floor to be more focused on building infrastructure and technology.

The educational sessions were a good reflection of the emphasis on improving the life of the building and improving the safety and comfort of the people who work, live, or learn within it. Ways to improve energy savings, reduce waste, and take advantage technology in the building management process were the general themes of the presentations. Another item worth mentioning is the remarkable experience and knowledge of the dozens of presenters.
