When CS&E decided to become a S4 Integrator Partner that decision included an investment in training their staff. Early in March they registered three of their technical staff for a custom Boot Camp at the S4 office in Ogden, Utah. In addition to some beautiful weather and scenic views, they were provided with an opportunity to learn about the S4 technology from start to finish. Jason Lanz, Jim Kish, and Greg Simmons brought with them a wealth of Johnson Controls Metasys® N2 and supervisory controller knowledge and Integration Project experience. The trio arrived well equipped with the M-tools software and their SmartStruxure environment. All that was needed was to dive into the S4 integration process and the best practices for bringing Metasys® systems into SmartStruxure.
At the start of the day, we ask the students what they want to learn, what they want to “take away” from the training experience. Greg said it best when he said, “As much knowledge as I can! "
With that in mind, the group jumped into the Boot Camp Experience. We laid the groundwork with each subject area module in the classroom and then ventured into the lab to apply what was learned.
With this process, any questions about the integration process were put to rest and the overall comments reflected the outcome, “I was nervous about this coming into the class, but I am very happy about what I found and how it works. Without training I had 0 comfort level, after the training I have the ability to do what I need to do in a field application.”
When asked if he would recommend the training to other companies, Jim Lanz stated that “I like knowing what will happen at the customer’s location. The training class gave us an opportunity to solve problems as the instructors threw them at us.”
