Bootcamp January 2020 in Review

Every S4 Open Boot Camp Training includes modules that provide S4 Open Products background and technical information as well as lots of hands on experience. The combination and highlights of the courses depends on the level of experience as well as the goals of the attendees. Prior to the training a survey is sent out requesting background information and the level of integration experience of each student. Students are asked what type of projects they have completed and if they are familiar with the S4 Open Products.

The attendees for the first Boot Camp of 2020 had an average of 10 years in the integration industry but only one had used the S4 Open Products prior to the class. The attendees represented Automated Logic Connecticut, Harris, Wasatch Controls and Illumra. The S4 Team was determined to offer the basic technical information but also provide hands on lab experiences to equip the students with plenty of practice time with the installation and troubleshooting processes.

The two teams from ALC Connecticut and Harris Company were getting ready to install the S4 Open products shortly after they returned so they had to be well prepared. Ethan Morris, one of the engineers from ALC summed up the experience “A significant part of the S4 Boot Camp that comes to mind is the hands-on training in the lab. We set out to integrate an N2 network to the ALC system and ran into some trouble with one device. This started us down a path to trouble shooting which is invaluable to see in the lab for the first time, rather than in the field.”

Brad Lundgren, of Harris Company, was happy with the training and said “The boot camp showed me how to use the independent N2 tools to discover N2 bus health and devices and type on the N2 bus. To then compare the device list to customer device list. The S4 Management Console and the configuration wizard is a great help in detecting and finding N2 points.”

The first training of 2020 was a great success, with the ideal mix of experience and active projects on the horizon. Have an S4 integration job coming up? Consider coming to our next training in April. Contact Nancy for more information nsjones@thes4group.com
